Boom Merchant drops a new release via Black Square Recordings, which is a German techno record label focusing on gritty techno with peak time energy and dark atmosphere.
This is the first time that Boom Merchant has featured on Black Square, and he adds the imprint to an impressive catalogue that also includes music on other labels ranging from T78’s Autektone to his own imprint Tribal Pulse.
Those familiar with Boom Merchant know him to be a dynamic techno producer who embraces a wide range of influences. His raw style of techno has powerful percussion and heavy basslines that create looming suspense. He often includes soulful or emotive vocal samples and serene pads that contrast with the sinister vibe of the groove.
Originally from Ireland, Boom Merchant is currently based in Mexico, but spent many years living in Scotland where he was resident at Glasgow’s prestigious Surge night club.
“Bolivia” is a dark and intense track with a grinding bassline underpinning hypnotic drums sequenced into swirling rhythms. The breakdown makes use of an old-school hardcore MC sample which adds some retro flavour to this ominous slice of peak time techno.
“Nanaman” has deep pads and pitched hi-hats layered with emotive vocal phrases that add to the poignant chords of the breakdown. It’s an up-tempo track that has a cinematic vibe which will enrapture a dance floor with its spellbinding intensity.
