Berlin has long been a breeding ground for boundary-pushing techno, and Karla Blum is proving herself to be one of its most exciting new exports. With a style rooted in the city’s gritty underground, Karla’s music fuses hypnotic synths, stripped-back grooves, and relentless low-end energy, capturing the essence of raw club euphoria.
Her latest track, “Take It,” on her own imprint BLUM BERLIN, is a perfect example of that uncompromising sonic vision. Following the breakout success of her previous single “No Fear”, which topped Spotify’s Techno Bunker playlist, Karla continues to evolve her sound while staying true to her roots.
With previous releases on respected labels like Senso Sounds, Say What?, and Alaula Music, she’s built a reputation for high-impact sets that are as emotionally charged as they are physically intense. From her debut at Berlin’s legendary Ritter Butzke to appearances at Pavoia Festival and Tanzhaus West, Karla Blum is carving out her place among the most compelling new names in techno.
We caught up with Karla ahead of her latest release to talk about the journey so far, the making of Take It, and what’s coming next.
Your new track “Take It” dropped via your own label, BLUM BERLIN. What inspired this release, whats the story behind it?
Take It was born out of the idea to create something that reflects both my personal artistic vision and the energy I bring to the dancefloor. Since it’s a release on my own label, BLUM BERLIN, I had complete creative freedom. The track combines raw drive with hypnotic elements—something that feels very true to who I am as an artist.
How are you satisfied with the feedback so far?
I’m honestly overwhelmed by the positive response. DJs I really admire have been playing it, and the feedback from fans has been amazing. It’s always rewarding to see how a track works in the club and resonates with people on a physical level.
“Take It” continues your raw and hypnotic sound. How do you strike a balance between minimalism and intensity in your productions?
For me, it’s all about tension and space. I like to keep things minimal in structure, but every element needs to have weight and purpose. By carefully shaping sounds and using repetition in the right way, I can build that hypnotic pull without losing momentum.
Berlin’s underground scene clearly shaped your musical identity. How does the city still influence your work today?
Berlin is a constant source of inspiration. The openness, the diversity of sounds, the freedom to experiment—it all flows into my music. The scene doesn’t care about trends, and that allows me to stay true to myself.
You’ve released music on respected labels like Senso Sounds and Say What? What motivated you to start your own imprint, BLUM BERLIN?
Starting BLUM BERLIN was about owning my vision. I wanted to build something that’s not just a label but a platform for both music and fashion—something that reflects my full creative identity. It’s empowering to have control over the entire process, from sound to visuals.
Speaking about your sets, what kind of journey do you aim to create for your audience during a performance?
I want to take people out of their everyday lives and into something immersive. My sets are built to create flow—rhythmic, hypnotic, and emotional. There’s always a narrative, even if it’s abstract. I want the crowd to feel both grounded and completely lost at the same time.
From Ritter Butzke to Pavoia Festival, you’ve played some iconic venues. Is there a gig that particularly stands out in your memory?
One that really stayed with me was SonneMondSterne. The vibe, the location by the water, and the energy of the crowd—it was magical. Sometimes everything just aligns, and that was one of those moments.
Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Karla Blum in 2025, any exciting projects or collaborations in the pipeline?
Absolutely. I’ve got a string of new releases coming up on Arcane Music, Set About Music and BLUM BERLIN, plus some exciting collaborations that push my sound in new directions. I’m also working on a new fashion drop tied to the label. And live-wise, there are some big festivals on the horizon—so stay tuned!
